Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin, who walked with some of the staff, said the morning was a success for the whole Shire.

"The more people who walk or ride to work, or use our new public bus service, the better off our local environment will be.

"It’s very important that we and other Shire businesses lead by example," stated Cr Goodwin.

Council provided a free healthy breakfast to reward those staff that participated and encouraged other businesses to provide something similar.

"I’d also like to thank Poole’s Fresh Produce for helping Council provide beautiful fresh fruit for our breakfast and Baker’s Delight in Wonthaggi who have kindly donated a variety of healthy breads," Cr Goodwin continued.

Walk to Work Day is an annual initiative organised by the Pedestrian Council of Australia, a national not-for-profit organisation. The aim of Walk to Work Day is to promote Better Health, Cleaner Air, Less Traffic and Better Public Transport. For more information visit www.walk.com.au.
