Drought Voucher Program Will Help Says Hall

MP Peter Hall has praised the RSPCA and the VFF for boosting the capacity of drought affected farmers to feed their livestock .

By The Nationals - 22nd February 2007 - Back to News

"The Drought Voucher Program is a practical, user friendly way for these two organisations to help struggling farmers to meet short term feed needs and allay animal welfare concerns during the current drought," said The Nationals Member for Eastern Region, Peter Hall.

‘One-off vouchers for feed purchases to eligible livestock producers of up to $3000 will be available subject to a selection process.

"The focus of the program is animal welfare rather than business assistance," said Mr Hall.

"Applications forms are simple and straight forward and should be completed and sent to the VFF," he explained.

"If the application is approved, the RSPCA will send a drought voucher to the applicant, who presents it to a feed retailer in exchange for credit on livestock feed purchases.

‘The retailer then forwards the voucher and invoice to the RSPCA for reimbursement.

"I congratulate the RSPCA and the VFF for working together to help our farmers in this practical way."

Guidelines and application forms are available from Peter Hall’s office tel: 5174 7066 or from the VFF Drought Website www.drought.org.au or by calling the VFF on 1300 882 833.
