The inaugural Regional Victoria Living Expo was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 27 - 29 April, 2012.

The Expo was an outstanding success with the Bass Coast stand drawing a huge number of enquires from metropolitan dwellers wanting to make the move to regional Victoria.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis, said Council staff worked at the stand and were busy taking enquiries from the minute the doors opened on Friday until after it closed on Sunday.

"The most pleasing aspect was the high level of genuine enquiries from individuals and families wanting to move to regional areas and Bass Coast in particular. Enquiries were very specific about services, transport, real estate, jobs, settlement support, education and health," said Mr Francis.

All Gippsland Councils had stands located adjacent to each other which allowed visitors an ideal opportunity to see all that Gippsland has to offer. A group Gippsland stand featured regional attractions, activities and produce, which a local chef used for cooking demonstrations. This stand drew a great deal of attention and interest. Chisholm TAFE Wonthaggi was also represented at the Expo.

The Gippsland Councils also developed a ‘Gippsland passport’. Expo visitors who got their passport stamped at each Gippsland stand went into the draw to win a weekend away in Gippsland.

Response to the Regional Victoria Living Expo has been very positive and event organisers have indicated that it will be on again next year between 12 – 14 April 2013. Next year Council staff are keen to have a stronger Bass Coast presence at the Expo, "Mr Francis said.

"In response to the types of enquiries taken this year specific information such as job vacancies, business opportunities and real estate prices will be made available next year.
