Groups Register to Clean Up AustraliaTwenty-five volunteer groups have registered for clean-up projects throughout the East Gippsland Shire as part of the Clean Up Australia campaign in March. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 24th February 2005 - Back to News They will tackle assignments in Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Orbost, Nicholson, Nowa Nowa, Bemm River, Cann River, Swifts Creek, Bendoc, Mallacoota, Omeo and Newlands Arm.
The groups will get to work over three days of the campaign including Business Clean Up Day, Tuesday, 1 March; Schools Clean Up Day, Friday, 4 March and Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, 6 March.
East Gippsland Shire Council’s Group Manager Community, Kate Nelson said the efforts of these groups will contribute to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
"Participation has again increased over last year and this shows the degree of concern the community has about ensuring our environment is pleasant, enjoyable and safe," she said.
Ms Nelson said that groups are still able register and can be made up of clubs, family groups, businesses or schools.
"Clean Up Australia Day supplies each registered group with bags, gloves etc to help them with their clean up," she said.
