Ingram seeks adequate parking assurance with developmentBy Craig Ingram - 21st July 2004 - Back to News The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has called on the East Gippsland Shire Council and developer Castlerock property management to ensure that adequate parking is provided with the proposed Aldi supermarket / K-mart development in Bairnsdale.
Mr Ingram said it is disappointing that the developers are seeking a planning exemption to significantly reduce the planning requirement for car parking spaces by approximately 200.
"This will place significant car parking pressure on the already stressed Bairnsdale CBD and would be an unacceptable disadvantage to surrounding residents and businesses.
"The shopping area requires more parking, not less - particularly on busy shopping days.
"Building a development of this scale in the CBD without adequate parking provision would be a planning disaster.
"I will be seeking an explanation from the company on how it will overcome these issues," Mr Ingram concluded.
