Message from Russell Broadbent on NAIDOC Week 2021
Community is invited to support and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the first people.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are being held right across Australia - and it's an important opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC originally stood for 'National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee'.
NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to get involved and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Get involved and learn
This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to get involved in and learn more about our First Nations' people and to actively engage with our local indigenous communities.
Get updates
I encourage you to get involved in these important celebrations. Head to the NAIDOC to check out what's happening around our region. And if you haven't already done so, I encourage you to read the Uluru statement from the heart which you can access on the script attached to this video.
As I've said before, embracing this generous invitation from our First Nation's people is essential if we want to head down the path that leads to real healing. We have so much to gain and nothing to lose. That's just as I see it.
