Exciting Performing Arts Program For The Rest Of The Year

A varied and exciting program for the Performing Arts across Latrobe City is planned from now until the end of the year.

By Latrobe City Council - 15th July 2005 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s Performing Arts and Venues Co-ordinator, Kathleen Roberts said that the program catered for every taste.

"From morning music sessions to comedy theatre, from Orchestra Victoria to acoustic guitar performances, there is bound to be something to appeal to all tastes in Latrobe City.

"Coming up on 19 July is the short film festival ‘In the realm of the senses’ featuring many award-winning short films, and highlighting the talents and creativity behind the films’ producers," Ms Roberts explained.

"Our morning music series kicks off on 27 July with ‘A waltz through Vienna’ allowing the audience to relive the wonder and colour of Viennese music such as ‘The Merry Widow’ ‘Vienna City of my Dreams’ and ‘Die Fledermaus’.

"On 9 August, we present the first of our theatre series, when the play ‘Barmaids’ comes to the stage. The story follows the ups and downs of two mature barmaids as they face the challenges of a changing pub scene," Ms Roberts said.

Ms Roberts added that the third of the highly successful Café Concert Series events was scheduled for 4 September, when The Nick Charles Trio play their blend of blues, jazz and country music in Tyers.

"We are also delighted that Orchestra Victoria is returning to Latrobe City to perform two free concerts on 12 and 13 October. These performances will be a must for lovers of orchestral music," Ms Roberts explained.

"The play ‘President Wilson in Paris’ is showing on 20 October and will have audiences on the edge of their seats as they follow the twists and turns in this comedy thriller," Ms Roberts said.

"The final performers in the Café Concert Series head to Tyers on 6 November. ‘The Band Who Knew Too Much’ play high energy, sometimes tongue in cheek, sometimes in your face fun music," Ms Roberts added.

"The play ‘Deckchairs’ by Jean McConnell is written as five twist-in-the-tail playlets for two women – all set on a seaside promenade. They are by turns funny and poignant. This is sure to be an exciting theatrical vehicle for the wonderful Joan Sydney, best known for the role of Matron Sloane in television’s ‘A Country Practice’," Ms Roberts explained.

"We wrap up the year with a stand out morning music session featuring the ever popular Denis Walter," Ms Roberts added.

"We have certainly pulled out all the stops to create a diverse and stimulating program covering a wide variety of cultural performances. With our new opening hours at the Box Office in Traralgon and with ticket booking facilities in Moe and Morwell too, we hope that we have made the performing arts accessible to more residents in the municipality and look forward to welcoming them to venues across the City," Ms Roberts concluded.

For further details on any of these performances contact the Box Office on 5176 3559.
