School Children Rewarded For Safe CyclingBy Bass Coast Shire Council - 4th October 2005 - Back to News What: As part of Safe Cycle Month, Victoria Police will present safety information and prizes for safe riding to children on the Newhaven Riding School Bus.
Who: Bass Coast Shire Council, Victoria Police and Road Safe South Gippsland.
When: 5 October 2005 at 8.45am.
Where: Newhaven Primary School, School Avenue, Newhaven.
Why: October is Safe Cycle Month, an annual Victoria Police road safety initiative in its 22nd year. The Newhaven Riding School Bus is part of Council’s Walking School BusTM Program that provides a safe and healthy alternative to daily car trips to school.
Background Information: The Newhaven Riding School Bus is proving to be highly successful with 15 children and six volunteers currently participating. The volunteers receive road safety training and the group follows all safety rules such as wearing bright vests. Council is keen to expand the Walking School BusTM Program to other schools and this is being encouraged by Victoria Police and Road Safe South Gippsland.
