Lowanna College Students to Live and Learn In IndiaLowanna College to do travel immersion in India. By Portal Admin - 3rd March 2019 - Back to News Lowanna College is one of seven schools across Victoria selected to take part in a travel immersion experience in India, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing, announced that Year 9 students at Lowanna College will take part in the first Victorian Young Leaders to India Program, giving students and teachers the opportunity to travel to India for three weeks in 2019.
The pilot program will run for two years (2019-20), and in 2019 provides a unique opportunity for 40 Year 9 students and their teachers from the selected seven schools to explore different aspects of India's diversity.
The students will experience daily life in an Indian school, explore India's cutting-edge STEM industries, visit historically significant sites and discover the nation's thriving culture.
The program will also develop students’ intercultural understanding and leadership skills and provide opportunities to strengthen the cultural ties between Victoria and India.
The Labor Government is also piloting a Victorian Young Leaders to Indonesia program in 2019. The program will give 40 Year 9 Victorian students and their teachers from 13 schools the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture of our closest Asian neighbour for six weeks.
The Victorian Young Leaders Programs support the Education State targets of critical and creative thinking, resilience and pride and confidence in our schools.
