Local Laws Officers Educate about Responsible Pet Ownership

Fifteen local people from three community groups recently enjoyed a tour of the Bass Coast Animal Shelter

Fifteen local people from three community groups recently enjoyed a tour of the Bass Coast Animal Shelter as well as an educational session about responsible pet ownership from two Bass Coast Shire Council local laws officers.

Members of Friends of the Kennels and Catteries, Bass Coast Adult Education Centre and the Neighbourhood Disability Group spent the morning learning more about the role of local laws officers in picking up stray pets and reuniting them with their owners.

Local laws officers Deb Amor and Kaye Hall also spoke to the group about the importance of registering or micro-chipping a pet to ensure it is returned if it strays.

After the education session, the group enjoyed morning tea at the Council offices and had the opportunity to ask questions.

"Some of the topics raised included pets in off-leash areas and what happens to animals if they are not reunited with their owners," said Senior Local Laws Officer, Kaye Hall. "Everyone enjoyed themselves, including the local laws officers.

Kaye said that Council’s local laws officers are available to speak to groups and individuals about responsible pet ownership. People interested can contact Council on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
