Labor’s Green Deal Threatens Valley Jobs - Again
Plans to shut down the local native forestry industry threatens Latrobe Valley jobs.
The Andrews Labor Government is again threatening Latrobe Valley jobs with plans to shut down the local native forestry industry.
The plan, reported in statewide media yesterday and not denied by Labor, would cost thousands of Gippsland jobs according to The Nationals candidate for Morwell, Sheridan Bond.
"Daniel Andrews is threatening more of our local jobs with Labor's secret deal with the Greens to destroy our timber industry.
"As a former Australian Paper employee, I understand just how vital these timber jobs are to securing the social and economic future of families and communities in the Latrobe Valley.
"There’s nearly 1000 direct jobs at Australian Paper alone, plus many thousands more in the Valley that rely on the timber industry. Daniel Andrews’ plans to bring an end to native forestry is a sop to inner-city Green voters at the expense of Latrobe Valley workers.
"Coming off the back of the loss of at least 1000 jobs as a consequence of the Hazelwood Power Station closure, Labor seems to be determined to shut down our major local industries in the Latrobe Valley.
"Daniel Andrews is only interested in fighting for his own job. The Nationals strongly support our timber industry and will fight for the thousands of local jobs it supports."
