Big Response To Transport Forum Approximately 100 people participated in two Transport Forums organised by the Wellington Shire Council. By Wellington Shire Council - 5th September 2007 - Back to News The forums were held to investigate the need for improved transport connections within the Shire.
"It was a really fantastic turn out. The participants came from diverse backgrounds and brought many different experiences and perspectives to the discussion," said Cr Beth Ripper, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council.
A large number of written submissions have also been received. The information collected from the forums and the submissions are part of a jointly funded Public Transport study being conducted for the Wellington Shire Council and Department of Infrastructure.
"The attendees identified a broad range of issues, including examples of current limitations of the V-Line Service. There was also some discussion about the broad impact on people’s families, health and community connectivity," said Cr Ripper.
"Feedback from the forum held for the business community also highlighted that poor public transport options have a significant economic impact on local businesses, both large and small."
"This is information can now be used in approaches to other levels of government," said Cr Ripper.
"Wellington Shire Council will continue to work with the Department of Infrastructure to examine the requirements within Wellington Shire for improved rail services and bus connections to rail services," said Cr Ripper.
