Boat owners have expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided within the Lake and River systems, however, the ongoing inadequacies of the ocean launching facilities have again been highlighted.
Those that have managed to gain ocean access have enjoyed exceptionally productive fishing conditions with good catches being reported. There have been however many instances of boats being damaged and vehicles being swamped primarily caused by the lack of adequate launching facilities at Bastion Point.
The Mallacoota Business and Tourism Association has again expressed its disappointment in the Governments inaction to rectify this long outstanding problem. It is understood that the Environmental Economic Study (EES) completed by the Shire at a cost in excess of $250,000 is finally due to be released for community comment. The Business association is calling on the Shire and the State Government to ensure the planning process proceeds to finality as quickly as possible as it is evident there is a major risk of a serious accident occurring at Bastion Point under the existing conditions.
