Gallery Director, Jacqui Hemsley said that Ranamok was Australia’s premier glass exhibition and competition that attracts worldwide recognition and showcases the highest standard of contemporary glass making.

"The winner of the 2006 Ranamok Glass Prize was awarded to Cobi Cockburn, of Queanbeyan, NSW, for her work ‘Shifting Fields’, a piece that explores the artist’s interest in natural fibres and her love of the Australian landscape," Ms Hemsley explained.

"The exhibition also features artists such as Nicole Ayliffe, Ede Horton, Tricia Allen and New Zealander Nigel Jones, who are all leading and highly collectable artists. There are also another 42 artists represented in this intriguing exhibition," Ms Hemsley added.

"Glass is a highly malleable and exciting medium. Artists can create objects that are not only strong and functional, but come alive with colour and shape. Hamish Dunlop’s ‘Netted to the River of Time’ has been made out of thousands of glass scales to create a marine animal, and Richard Clements ‘The Resting Eye’, a shell glass pillow to name but a few," Ms Hemsley explained.

A free exhibition talk by glass artist Crystal Stubbs will be held on Saturday 31 March at 10am as part of the exhibition.

The Ranamok exhibition will run until Sunday 13 May.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days, Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm. Admission is free.
