International Computer Drivers LicenceAccreditation recognised in other countries, making employment overseas easier By Eimear McNelis - 25th June 2002 - Back to News GippsTAFE has a new program for anyone who wants to have their computer skills recognised anywhere in the world!
GippsTAFE is offering the International Computer Drivers Licence (ICDL), which is accredited by the Australian Computer Society, and recognised in 24 countries.
The ICDL is a certification program that allows people with personal computing skills to be tested, and issued with an internationally endorsed and recognised certificate.
GippsTAFE’s authorised ICDL Testing Centre at the Morwell Campus allows students to work at their own pace, to prepare for, and undertake seven ICDL tests to gain accreditation.
"The students think that the course works well and they especially appreciate the fact that they can go at their own pace," said GippsTAFE’s ICDL Facilitator, Kaye Saultry.
"It appeals to many students because it is recognised in other countries, making employment overseas easier."
Students are required to pass all seven tests in the ICDL, when they feel they are ready.
Students are tested on the basic concepts of IT, using a computer, managing files, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and information and communication.
"The ICDL is especially suited to people who already are computer literate, with some experience of Windows or applications like Word and Excel, who want to gain formal recognition," said Ms Saultry.
"At the end of the course, the students are issued with a personalised computer licence from the Australian Computer Society."
For more information on ICDL visit www.acs.org.au/icdl or contact GippsTAFE’s Morwell Campus on 5120 4500.
