Workshops A Blazing SuccessFive recent Fire Safety Workshops held throughout Bass Coast Shire have been a resounding success, with more than 150 elderly residents attending By Bass Coast Shire Council - 14th September 2001 - Back to News Five recent Fire Safety Workshops held throughout Bass Coast Shire have been a resounding success, with more than 150 elderly residents attending. Another workshop is scheduled in Wonthaggi on Monday 24 September.
The free workshops are a joint initiative between Bass Coast Shire Council and the CFA, and aim to educate elderly residents about how to prevent and deal with fires in the home.
"Statistics show that elderly people make up a large proportion of the casualties that are a result of fire," said Jeanette Draper, Aged and Disability Manager with Bass Coast Shire Council. "This is a major concern to Council and the CFA, and is why we have initiated these sessions."
Residents are encouraged to attend the last workshop, and Council and the CFA are looking forward to a large turnout. The last workshop will be held on Monday 24 September at Wonthaggi Senior Citizens, on Murray Street, Wonthaggi from 11am to 12.30pm. Entry is free, with tea, coffee, and light snacks supplied.
There will also be a free raffle at the workshop with great prizes including fire blankets and good quality smoke detectors.
