Waste Management Officer, Peter Roberts, said Council supports Clean Up Australia so the community can work together to help keep Bass Coast beautiful.

"Bass Coast has a breathtaking coastline and natural environment," said Mr Roberts. "This is a great reason why everyone should get involved and lend a hand on Clean Up Australia Day.

2011 marks the 21st anniversary of Clean up Australia Day, which started as a simple idea urging Australians to make a difference by cleaning up their local areas for a couple of hours.

It is now Australia’s largest community based environmental event. Last year almost 630,000 volunteers participated in Clean up Australia Day and 5,300 sites have registered for 2011.

"While the main aim of the day is to clean up our local areas, it also gives everyone an opportunity to really think about the impact they have on the environment through what we use, reuse, throw away and pick up ," continued Mr Roberts.
