Don'T Delay On Restricted Dog RegistrationVictorian legislation introduced in Parliament last Wednesday sets in place further controls for dangerous and restricted dogs, including American pitbulls. By Bass Coast - 7th September 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council Community Saftey Manager, Philippa O’Halloran, said that dog owners in Bass Coast need to make sure their animals are properly registered. "This new legislation will mean that the amnesty to register restricted breeds ends on 29 September," said Mrs O’Halloran.
"We have very few reports annually of dangerous dog attacks in our community; however, people need to get their dogs registered before the amnesty runs out. "We will be doing doorknocks after the amnesty to check pet registration, and will take relevant action if animals are incorrectly registered," said Mrs O’Halloran.
Mrs O’Halloran said that in the past two years Council has tightend up animal management practices and has continued to provide educational messages to the community about responsible pet ownership.
"We provide a lot of information for pet owners, with brochures at our Customer Service Centres, information on our website and the annual Pet Expo held each November," explained Mrs O’Halloran.
