Being Safe In Roadworks

Driving through the road works on the Bass Highway, the entry to Wonthaggi and at other locations in Bass Coast can be frustrating, but RoadSafe is encouraging all drivers to be patient.

By RoadSafe - 16th March 2010 - Back to News

Chair of South Gippsland RoadSafe, Veronica Dowman, said by travelling too fast through these areas, drivers not only put themselves in danger of crashing, but the lives of road workers on site too.

"A simple thing like a stone flicked up by a vehicle can have the same result as being shot with a bullet," said Cr Dowman

"We all need to remember that different speed limits apply in areas where road works are occurring, even when there are no workers on site.

"Obeying the speed limit might save you from getting a speeding ticket, but even more importantly could save someone from being injured or killed.

"Road work sites slow you down for a short time but it’s better than a long time of regrets," continued Cr Dowman

Eventually the road works will be gone making your trip smoother and safer. In the meantime, be RoadSafe through road works.
