For the second year running local AFLW team, the Bass Coast Breakers, will celebrate DonateLife Week with a dedicated match and women’s football showcase on Sunday 29 July from 11.00am at Dalyston Recreation Reserve.

Breaker’s captain, Chelsea Connell explained that DonateLife week aims to increase organ donor awareness, education and importantly, registrations.

"In 2017, 1,675 Australians received a lifesaving transplant thanks to the generosity of organ donors," Chelsea said.

"It’s so important that we help raise awareness and registrations so that the number of lives saved can grow.

"The philosophy behind donating tissue and organs to save the life of another really resonates with our club.

Over the past two years we have worked hard to build an inclusive and welcoming community. Team work and looking out for each other on and off the field is a big part of who we have become."

To profile and celebrate DonateLife Week the Breakers will be hosting an all-female football showcase with women’s and youth girls teams from Warragul, Phillip Island, Wonthaggi and Koo Wee Rup.

There will be a DonateLife stand at the showcase providing lots of fun and free ways for people to get involved with DonateLife Week. There will also be the opportunity for people to register to become a Donor and learn more about organ and tissue donation.

There will be three women’s football games on the day:

  • 11.00am Wonthaggi Power youth girls vs Koo Wee Rup youth girls
  • 12.30pm Warragul Industrials vs Phillip Island
  • 2.00pm Bass Coast Breakers vs Warragul (With half time girls Auskick game)

It takes less than one minute to join the Australian Organ Donor Register at www.donatelife.gov.au – all you need is your Medicare Card number. What are you waiting for?
