By Bass Coast Transport Connections - 12th December 2005 - Back to News

The Bass Coast Summer Bus Service between Inverloch and Cowes will operate again over the summer period following the success of the service last year.

"The fares are generally lower this year, representing great value for money for most users," said John Sanderson, Bass Coast Transport Connections Project Facilitator and co-ordinator of the service.

The single fare for the longest trip between Inverloch and Cowes will be $7.50 for a full fare and $3.80 for a concession fare.

Intermediate fares along the route will depend upon the distance travelled. Typical fares will be:

  • A $3.00 full fare between Inverloch and Wonthaggi, with a concession fare of $1.50.
  • A $3.50 full fare between Kilcunda and Wonthaggi, with a concession fare of $1.80.
  • A $4.00 full fare between San Remo and Cowes, with a concession fare of $2.00.
  • A $2.50 full fare between Smiths Beach and Cowes, with a concession fare of $1.20.

"The service will leave Inverloch at 10.00am and 2.00pm and Cowes at 11.30am and 3.30pm, giving people plenty of time for their activities," said Mr Sanderson.

The service will operate weekdays and Saturdays between Monday 19 December 2005 and Saturday 28 January 2006. There will be no services on a Sunday. The service will use V/Line stops along the route.

"Last year almost 500 people used the service to access beaches, visit shops or just spend time with friends," said Mr Sanderson.

"Everyone is encouraged to use the service. It will be a great help in increasing accessibility across the Shire.

Mr Sanderson said he was hopeful that this year even more people would take advantage of the service.

"Get a copy of the timetable and stick it on the fridge with all your other notices," he said.

Timetables and fares for the service will be available from Bass Coast Customer Service Centres, Visitor Information Centres, Community Houses and will be advertised in the local newspapers on a regular basis throughout the summer.

The timetable and fares will be posted on community notice boards and will also be available on Bass Coast Shire’s website www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.

And finally, the information will be available in the Sun, Surf and Sand brochure, which is available from most information outlets, and on its website www.sunsurfsand.com.au.

If anyone wants more information about the service please contact John Sanderson at Bass Coast Transport Connections on 5671 2211 or 5952 3311 or by email at transportconnections@basscoast.vic.gov.au.
