Art Show Presentations

Bass Coast Shire Council’s public art collection now boasts two new additions.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 26th August 2009 - Back to News

Paintings by Jayne Henderson (Farm, Phillip Island) and Ramon Horsfield (Hill Country, Yarra Glen) were formally presented at the Council meeting on Wednesday, 19 August 2009.

Jayne Henderson’s painting won the Bass Coast Acquisitive Prize at the San Remo and Newhaven Lion’s Club Art Show on the Labour Day weekend 2009 and was presented to Council by Roma Caulfield and Helen Beyer.

The painting by Ramon Horsfield won the Best Artwork in 2009 Easter Exhibition at the Bass Coast Artists’ Society Exhibition and was presented by Brian Conroy and Liz Glynn.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr John Duscher, was delighted to receive the paintings on behalf of the community.

"These are a wonderful addition to our collection," said Cr Duscher.

"Everytime we get another painting, I am reminded again of the quality of artwork that we have in Bass Coast.

"It also emphasises the need we have for a regional gallery. We should have a space to show all this wonderful artwork."

Pieces from the public art collection are hung on the walls and foyers of Council buildings and in a ‘virtual gallery’ on Council’s website.

Sixty seven pieces of artwork by 42 artists from the public art collection were displayed earlier this year at an exhibition at Coalfields Art Gallery in Wonthaggi.
