Bass Coast Sports & Leisure Expo

A Sports and Leisure Expo involving mass community participation across the Shire is being held on Sunday, 26 February 2006.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 10th February 2006 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council, in conjunction with its YMCA Leisure Centres, is running the day as part of its 2006 Commonwealth Games celebrations.

Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, says the aim of the day is to give community members an opportunity to participate in activities they might not otherwise have tried.

"It will also give people the chance to ‘test out’ their sports and leisure interests before they sign up for membership," said Ms Churchill.

More than 30 activities are being held across the Shire free of charge.

Participants who complete three or more will receive a piece of Games merchandise such as a hat, t-shirt, drink bottle or pen and a certificate of participation.

Activities include kayaking, sailing, dancing, bridge, patch working, golf, croquet, bowls, netball, disability cricket, underwater hockey, aerobics, soccer, karate and surf life saving.

Registration begins from 9.30am at YMCA Leisure Centres in Cowes, Wonthaggi and Inverloch, where participants will also receive a map and timetable of events.

Events are scheduled between 10am and 4pm throughout the day.

Individuals will need to return to claim their prizes by 4.30pm for Wonthaggi and Cowes and 2.30pm for Inverloch.

For more information contact Rebecca Wilson at the YMCA on 5952 2811 or visit Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.
