Pirates to take over Moe Town Hall

The Moe Town Hall will be the first venue to host a Latrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre presentation for 2002

The Moe Town Hall will be the first venue to host a Latrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre presentation for 2002 when an hilarious production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ is performed, on Thursday 7 February.

According to Latrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre Director, Paul Holton, the performance is unique because it features a cast of only six. "It’s a performance that will create pandemonium and have the audience rolling in the aisles," Mr Holton said.

"This is to be the first of a number of shows we will be presenting at the Moe Town Hall this year, in an effort to deliver our program equitably across the City. The Moe Town Hall is a great venue, having been completely refurbished in the past few years. Patrons will find it extremely comfortable," Mr Holton said.

"The production features a talented ensemble of very experienced performers who will be run off their feet. Well known comedy actor Brian Hannan plays The Major-general and Ruth. He is joined David Gould who plays both the Pirate King and the Police Sergeant. This gets a bit tricky in Act-two when he has to arrest himself," Mr Holton said.

"Exciting soprano from Opera, Australia Jane O’Toole, will use her soaring and powerful voice to compliment the show as Mabel; with Andrew Dunne playing Frederick and Chris McKenna playing the entire men’s and ladies chorus. Musically the show will be in the very capable hands of pianist Sue Goessling," Mr Holton added.

The Pirate of Penzance will be presented at 11am on Thursday 7 February. Tickets are $11 and are available from Select Music Systems in Franklin Street Traralgon and at the Latrobe City Offices in Moe. Ticket price includes light refreshments before the show.
