Pet Registrations A Little HairyThis year’s animal registration renewal process has not gone as smoothly as hoped. By Bass Coast - 7th April 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Safety Manager, Philippa O’Halloran, said a computer problem created some problems with the mailout.
"Unfortunately a link to our database of registered animals failed," explained Mrs O’Halloran.
"As a result, approximately 15 per cent of registration renewals notices contained the wrong information.
"Some people who have a number of animals registered with us only received a notice for one animal, when all of their registered animals should have been listed."
A letter has been sent to all those affected by the mistake, apologising for the error.
"We are very sorry for any inconvenience or concern this might have caused the pet owners," continued Mrs O’Halloran.
"If you are coming into our Customer Service Centres to pay your animal registration, our staff can correct the mistake when you are here. If you are sending payment by mail, please just make a note of the missing animal’s details and we will send an additional tag when we mail out your receipt."
Pet registration notices were sent to 7000 households this year. By law, all cats and dogs who are older than three months must be registered with Council.
Last year, Council picked up over 300 dogs at large. Reuniting a lost pet with its owner is a quick and simple process if the pet is microchipped and registered.
Animal Registration is due for renewal by 10 April every year.
