Sport And Recreation Grants Available

Need funding for sport and recreation facilities?

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 20th September 2007 - Back to News

The State Government’s Sport and Recreation – Community Facility Funding Program for 2008-09 is now open.

But get in fast, says Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Richard Perry.

"We have just been notified, and the timelines are extremely short this year."

The five categories of grants are:

  • Planning Community Infrastructure – grants of up to $30,000 for projects focussing on recreation planning or facility feasibility.
  • Minor Facilities – grants of up to $60,000 (where the project costs $200,000 or less) for community groups, working in partnership with council, to develop or upgrade community sport and recreation facilities.
  • Major Facilities – grants of up to $500,000 (where the project costs more than $200,000) for the development of major sport and recreation facilities.
  • Aquatic Access/Better Pools – grants of up to $2.5 million to provide quality aquatic leisure facilities through new aquatic centres, or extensions to existing centres.
  • Seasonal Pool Renewal – grants of up to $200,000 to rejuvenate seasonal swimming pools in small communities in rural and regional Victoria.

In the categories of Planning Community Infrastructure and Minor Facilities, community groups must have their applications in to Bass Coast Shire Council by 2 October 2007.

"This is so Council can review the applications and work with groups to submit them to State Government by 9 November 2007," advised Mr Perry.

"As timelines are so short, groups will need to have details of projects ready and firm estimations of costs in hand.

"In the last funding round we were successful in getting $60,000 towards the upgrade of the Phillip Island Soccer Club at Newhaven."

In the categories of Major Facilities, Aquatic Access/Better Pools and Seasonal Pool Renewal, community groups should contact Council urgently.

"Council needs to lodge applications for the 2008/09 funding round with the State Government by 2 October 2007," said Mr Perry.

"It would also be wise for groups wanting to submit applications for future funding rounds to contact us now, so we can prepare well ahead of time."
