The Napthine Government¡¦s record investment in law and order in Victoria has resulted in a major increase in police across the state including in the Morwell electorate, Member for Morwell Russell Northe said today.

¡§The Coalition Government has delivered on its $602 million election commitment to put 1,700 more police on the beat in Victoria,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§That¡¦s a 14.4 per cent increase in regional police numbers since the Coalition came to power in November 2010, meaning Victoria Police can fight more crime, more effectively.

"Extra police have been allocated at Boolarra, Churchill, Morwell and Traralgon police stations which is good news for public safety and crime fighting in the Latrobe Valley."

Mr Northe said another 320 frontline police are working across regions in areas such as transit and public safety, highway patrol, intelligence and covert support, and other key crime detection areas.

¡§In addition, crucial frontline police taskforces have been established or enhanced to enable police to tackle key crime areas including family violence, illicit drug manufacture and distribution, organised crime, outlaw motorcycle gangs and road safety,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe said there were also another 478 police completing their final training, who were yet to be assigned a permanent regional location.

¡§Public safety is paramount, and the Napthine Government is doing its part to ensure our streets are safer and community expectations are met, which is in direct contrast to Labor¡¦s soft on crime approach,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe said the Coalition Government continued to make an unprecedented investment in Victoria Police, providing more funding than any other government in Victoria¡¦s history.

¡§The 2014-15 Victorian State Budget highlights the Coalition Government¡¦s commitment to increasing community safety for all Victorians and meeting the needs of growing communities across the state.

¡§A record $2.43 billion is being provided to Victoria Police in 2014-2015, representing a $439 million or 22 per cent increase on the previous Labor Government¡¦s last budget in 2010,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
