Improved safety at ventnor beach road and berrys beach road intersection around the cornerThe Intersection of Ventnor Beach Road and Berrys Beach Road has been earmarked for the construction of a roundabout. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 10th October 2005 - Back to News The large amount of traffic in this area, particularly around special events such as the Grand Prix has lead to a number of safety concerns, which can be addressed by the construction of a roundabout.
Plans to have the roundabout completed in time for this year’s Grand Prix have been delayed by the recent wet weather.
"The rain over the past month has caused underlying problems with the road foundations," explained Murray Kent, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Senior Design Engineer. "We couldn’t guarantee that all the works would be completed and sealed before October 15.
"Obviously that would cause major traffic disruptions during the peak period of the Grand Prix, so the decision was made to delay works until later in the year.
A contract has been awarded for the works and construction is expected to commence later this year. Completion of the roundabout will improve traffic safety in the area, following on from recent upgrades to Ventnor Beach Road.
As in previous years, Victoria Police will continue to undertake traffic control in the area, to reduce traffic congestion during the Grand Prix.
