Expect to see all kinds of pets at the Pet Expo

Expect to see all kinds of pets at the Pet Expo

Pets across Bass Coast are shining their coats and preening their feathers in anticipation of the Bass Coast Pet Expo at the San Remo Foreshore on Saturday, 5 May.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said the Expo, which starts at 10.00am, is a day all pet lovers should not miss.

"We know the Expo is great fun for pets and children and we encourage families to bring their pets along on the day. As well as being fun, there is lots of useful information for pet owners so there will be something for everyone," said Mr Piasente.

"A highlight of the day is the pet show which starts at 12.30pm. It is simple to join in - just enter your pet on the day," Mr Piasente said.

"The pet show has prizes for six different categories: most interesting dog and cat, most interesting pet other than dog or cat, ‘best dressed’ dog and cat and Judges’ Choice. Some contestants plan their pets outfit well in advance to try and win ‘best dressed’, so it is a fantastic spectator event too."

"Entertainment includes lots of free activities, give away bags, face painting, jumping castles, an animal petting farm and pony rides. We have had an increase in market stall registrations this year, so there will be even more to see and do."

There are also pet focused activities such as dog obedience demonstrations, panel discussions on responsible pet ownership and discounted micro-chipping for pets.

Mr Piasente said animal management is a huge part of the work of Council’s Community Safety Rangers. The Expo is one of our biggest education opportunities and is a chance for us to promote the importance of responsible pet ownership in a fun and positive way."
