Walking School Bus To Start At Lake Tyers TrustThe region’s first daily Walking School Bus will begin operations next Tuesday at the Lake Tyers Trust. By East Gippsland Shire - 21st November 2005 - Back to News In this case children will be walked to the breakfast program that is run each morning at the Trust.
For the new ‘bus’ two volunteers - a driver and conductor, have undertaken the required training program.
Each morning the bus will travel around the Trust picking up children from the front of their house or the closest bus stop.
East Gippsland Shire’s Walking School Bus Coordinator Kaylene Wickham said there were two stops along the route, one just past the childcare centre, and the other at the bottom corner of the oval.
"The bus is scheduled to arrive at 7.35 am at the Administration building where breakfast is served each morning," she said.
Mrs Wickham said the introduction of the program to the Lake Tyers Trust was a welcome initiative.
"It is important to involve all children that can walk to their morning school or bus stop in these activities that encourage health and safety," she said.
Ms Wickham said a presentation on the new program would be held will be held at 7.45 am next Tuesday (22 November) at the Lakes Tyers Administration Building.
"All the participants and the members of the community are welcome to attend," she said
Ms Wickham said that after breakfast each morning two 'real' buses would continue taking the students to their school.
"So the kids will have their healthy breakfast as well as some exercise before their day at school"
