Timely Business Advice Being Delivered

A growing sense of needing to know more about the serious issues in managing a successful small business was the driving force behind a successful small business

A growing sense of needing to know more about the serious issues in managing a successful small business was the driving force behind a successful small business seminar held last Wednesday in Latrobe City.

Attended by over 60 business operators, and representing 44 different small businesses from throughout municipality, the seminar heard all about the latest advice on occupational health and safety, taxation and financial management.

Latrobe City Council’s Investment Manager, Leo Billington, said the message coming from the small to medium business sector, is that timely, current and relevant information from government agencies is required, to be successful in business.

"There are a range of government and industry policies affecting business, and some of these can be difficult to understand. The quantity of information generated, may prove quite baffling to many business operators, who are busy concentrating on other aspects of their business. They find it difficult to spend a lot of their time perusing all the information in order to determine what is specifically relevant to them," Mr Billington said.

Therefore, seminars such as this, organised and conducted by the Latrobe Small Business Network, become the conduit through which experts can speak directly to business owners, who in turn are able to ask questions and receive immediate answers, Mr Billington added.

The Latrobe Small Business Network has now conducted two seminars with another two planned before the end of May. This initiative complements other networks such as the Micro and Home Based Business Network and the Women in Business Network, both of which are also accessible to small to medium business operators from Latrobe City.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning congratulated the work being undertaken by the Latrobe Small Business Network and the various programs planned through to late May.

"Ëveryone can learn more from these programs thereby ensuring a stronger small business sector, primed for further growth opportunities," Cr Hanning said.

The Latrobe Small Business Network is funded through the Victorian State Government Ministerial Taskforce and co-ordinated by Latrobe City’s Invest Latrobe.
