Get On Board The Broadband Truck The Nbn Truck Open For Display And Demonstrations What will access to high speed broadband mean for businesses and residents of Bass Coast? By Bass Coast - 14th February 2012 - Back to News On 21 February, the National Broadband Network (NBN) Truck will spend the day in Wonthaggi. The Truck is fitted with an interactive demonstration of NBN, high definition video screens and equipment.
Visitors to the Truck will see:
- What the NBN is and why it is important for Australia's future
- How the NBN works and how it can benefit you
- What the equipment will look like when installed in your home or business
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said anyone can visit the Truck or book in online for a visit.
"A team of demonstrators will be on hand to answer questions and take people on tours through the Truck. "They will demonstrate what broadband can do, such as an online medical consultation and video conferencing as well as games and new applications for people to play with.
"Members of the general public, schools, community groups and anyone else who would like to find out more about what high speed broadband will do can come along and have a look," Mr Piasente said.
The Truck is provided by NBN Co, the company established in 2009 to deliver Australia's first national wholesale-only, open access broadband network to all Australians, regardless of where they live.
"We receive thousands of emails and calls each week from individuals, businesses and local councils asking when the NBN is coming to their area, and wanting to know how it works, what they can use it for, and how to get connected," said General Manager Demonstration Facilities, Cassandra Hayes.
"The demo truck makes it possible for people to experience for themselves some of the exciting applications in education, health and business that can be delivered over the NBN."
The NBN Truck will be located in the Wonthaggi Safeway Carpark at the corner of Murray and Billson Streets, Wonthaggi, from 10.00am 5.00pm on 21 February. The Rotary Club of Wonthaggi will hold a sausage sizzle between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Residents are invited to drop in between 10.00am and 5.00pm. Alternatively group sessions can be booked online at www.nbnco.com.au/demos.
