Funding To Boost State'S Recreational Fishing Industry

A funding program designed to improve recreational fishing has been launched in Victoria.

By Peter Hall - 18th October 2004 - Back to News

The Recreational Fishing Grant Program 2004/05 aims to provide more opportunities for Victoria's many recreational fishers through better services and improving the sustainable management of the state's world class recreational fisheries.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province, PETER HALL, encouraged organisations and interested stakeholders to apply for funding.

Funding grants are open to recreational fishing clubs, municipal councils, catchment management authorities, water authorities, relevant peak bodies and associations, universities and TAFE colleges, charter boat operators and fishing guides.

Mr Hall said funding was available through the program for projects which fall within the following four categories:

  • Recreational fisheries sustainability and habitat improvement
    (including fish stocking)
  • Recreational fishing access and facilities
  • Recreational fisheries related education, information and training
  • Recreational fisheries research.

"Proposals to be considered for funding will be those that help improve fish stocks and provide easy, safe and efficient access to coastal and inland waters for recreational fishers," he said.

"Projects that improve present practices, procedures and experiences of recreational fishers and which provide practical knowledge to enable better management of recreational target fish species in Victorian waters will also be looked at."

Applications for fish stocking projects will close on January 14, 2005.

All other project applications will close on February 28, 2005.

Guidelines and application forms are available from Mr Hall's electorate office at 190 Franklin Street, Traralgon.
