Help Make Bass Coast Roads SaferFight the rising road toll, be involved By Bass Coast Shire Council - 13th February 2002 - Back to News Local people have the opportunity to help fight the rising road toll by attending Road Safety Workshops in the Shire during February. The workshops will help Council develop a Community Road Safety Plan for the municipality and will take place in Cowes on 26 February and Wonthaggi on 27 February.
“Council is joining forces with VicRoads, Victoria Police, other agencies and the community to work out ways of reducing the number of deaths and injuries on our roads,” said Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.
“The Community Road Safety Plan will help us reduce the road toll locally by outlining the steps that Council and the community can take to make our roads safer,” said Cr Sage.
Cr Sage explained that the two workshops are an opportunity for local people to discuss road safety issues in the Shire. Councillors, Council staff, and emergency services staff will attend the workshops.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend either workshop to raise the road safety issues they think are important in Bass Coast.
One workshop will be held at the Cowes Cultural Centre on Tuesday 26 February 2002 from 7-9pm. The other will be held at the Bass Coast Civic Centre, Wonthaggi, on Wednesday 27 February from 7-9pm.
For more information about the workshops or the Bass Coast Community Road Safety Plan, contact Belinda Saunders at Council on (03) 5671 2436 or 5951 3311.
