Lake Narracan Given The All Clear Warning signs at Lake Narracan have been removed following tests showing the blue green algae levels have dropped to below the permissible level. By Latrobe City - 8th February 2012 - Back to News Latrobe City’s coordinator leisure facilities, William Macpherson, said that recreational activity could recommence.
"Our regular testing has shown that the levels of blue green algae in the lake have dropped enough for visitors to have confidence in using the facilities. However, should visitors notice any discoloured scum on the water they should avoid direct contact.
"We will continue to monitor the health of the lake over the coming weeks. Blue green algal blooms can form rapidly, and can also be invisible to the naked eye. If a member of the community is experiencing a health issue they think may be related to contact with water contaminated by BGA, they should seek medical advice promptly.
"We would also remind visitors to the lake to take home their rubbish so that all users can enjoy the facilities," Mr Macpherson said.
