Surf Parade path scheduled to start The construction of the shared pathway between Abbott Street and Ayr Creek will begin after the bridge has been installed. This project is anticipated to be completed this September. By news@gippsland - 8th June 2016 - Back to News Construction of the Ayr Creek pedestrian bridge and foreshore shared pathway along Surf Parade between Abbott Street and Ayr Creek in Inverloch is set to begin.
Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed J & R Industries to carry out the supply, fabrication, delivery and installation of the new pedestrian bridge with ADA Constructions Pty Ltd to construct the shared pathway extension.
The installation of the pedestrian bridge will begin from 13 July and it is anticipated to be finished by early August. The construction of the shared pathway will begin after the bridge has been installed, and is anticipated to be completed by September, weather permitting.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Jordan Crugnale, said the aim of this project is to install a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists at Ayr Creek and link it to the existing shared path on Ramsay Boulevard.
"The project will deliver a safe off road shared path for cyclists and pedestrians along the foreshore, connecting from the existing shared path which currently ends near Abbott Street to the new Ayr Creek bridge," Cr Crugnale said.
"This pathway link is part of strategic pedestrian and bicycle link within the Bass Coast Principle Bicycle Network.
These works will be carried out as a part of Council’s adopted 2015/2016 Capital Works Program and is fully funded by Council. The project cost will be in the order of $208,000.
Our works will involve:
- Approved vegetation clearing associated with the bridgeworks and pathway extension
- Construction of a 2.5 metre wide pedestrian bridge over Ayr Creek. The bridge will include a viewing deck area with decorative panels.
- Construction of a 2.5 metre wide concrete shared pathway between Abbott Street and Ayr Creek bridge (about 150 metres)
A road closure will be in place whilst the bridge is being installed. It is anticipated this may only be for one to two days, subject to contractors requirements.
Road users will need to seek alternative routes during the bridge installation period. Council’s contractor will be notifying and working closely with local residents within this section of road. While implementing this road closure, appropriate detours will be in place, including electronic message signs to be displayed onsite during these works.
"We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience and we ask for your patience during these times. Our contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to motorists, school buses, residents and local businesses," Cr Crugnale said.
