Maffra Youth create card for peersBy Wellington Shire Council - 7th October 2005 - Back to News The new Wellington Shire Youth Card may be small and just big enough to fit neatly into your wallet, but it’s brimming at the edges with stacks of information. The Youth Card is set to be released by the Maffra Youth Committee in conjunction with Wellington Shire Council this month.
The card will entitle bearers to discounts at local businesses popular with youth, as well as provide contact details for local, regional and state-wide support services relevant to young people.
Wellington Shire Youth Development Officer David Roberts said: "The card will hold essential information regarding health and welfare for youth as well as provide an easy access to city services through telephone numbers and web addresses."
The Maffra Youth Committee, who meet every week at the Shire’s Exhibition Space next to the Maffra Library, have spent tireless hours developing the card to ensure that it has improved access to services, and provides more information than the previous Youth Card.
Mr Roberts said: "The Committee believe it is important that the discounts the card offers appeal to a wide range of youth, so the card has value to them and they hold onto it."
The Youth Card will be distributed to approximately 3,000 people aged 12-24 in Sale, Stratford, Rosedale, Heyfield and Maffra with a further release planned specifically for Yarram and district.
Wellington Shire’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Steven Dickson said: "The Youth Card is a great initiative; both providing important information on health and support services as well as offering discounts relevant to Wellington Shire youth. I congratulate the Maffra Youth Committee for working so hard to develop this card, which will benefit young people across the Shire."
