More Plans For Swan BayA third proposal for the site of the former Swan Bay Caravan Park at Rhyll has been lodged with Council. By Bass Coast - 12th October 2010 - Back to News Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones confirmed that Council received the new proposal last month.
"There are actually two applications relating to the Swan Bay site," explained Ms Duncan-Jones.
"The first is for an 84 room residential hotel, with a restaurant, meeting room, child care facilitities, café and bar, gym and swimming pool.
"The proposal also incorporates a Conference Centre and 33 serviced apartments, as well as a retail component which includes a food and drink premises and day spa.
"The second application is for 34 dwellings to be used as serviced apartments."
The two applications are for concurrent development on the site.
After an initial assessment of the applications, Ms Duncan-Jones said Council had requested additional information.
"There is information we need supplied before we can process this application and make it available to the public," confirmed Ms Duncan-Jones.
"We have requested this information under Section 54 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
"The applicant has 60 days to provide this additional information and once we receive it, the application will be put on public exhibition. Interested members of the community will be able to view the plans at our offices in Wonthaggi and Cowes."
In 2007, an application to develop the Rhyll site in was refused by Council and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), due to its large scale, access and parking deficiences, and poor fit within the residential area of Rhyll.
A second application lodged in 2008 lapsed after the applicant failed to provide further information when requested.
