Franchising Help For Small Business OperatorsA ‘workshop’ designed to help people considering buying a franchise business will be held in Bairnsdale on Tuesday, 12 October. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 28th September 2004 - Back to News Convened by the East Gippsland Shire Council’s Business Support Unit and part of the Victorian Government’s "Under New Management" program, it will be held at the Bairnsdale Club at 6.00 pm and cost $25 per business.
East Gippsland Shire's Business Support Officer Sandra Bailey, says that there are nearly 50,000 franchise businesses operating in Australia employing 388,500 people.
"Franchising is a well-tested business system that can provide a low risk entry into business, but because it still involves a significant investment we urge people to learn as much as they can before they sign up," she said.
The ‘Franchising Australia 2002’ study shows that the average start up cost is $85,000.
"Retail businesses require an average of $208,000 because of the high infrastructure costs, while service industry franchises average $62,500," Sandra said.
