Crime Prevention Grants
Crime Prevention Grants to open for applications by January 2021.
A new $11 million Building Safer Communities Program was recently announced by the State Government that seeks to improve community safety will open for application in January 2021.
Under this, community organisations and councils as well as other stakeholders will be able to apply for grants to improve safety and prevent crime in their local communities.
"These grants are aimed at establishing partnerships, and working together to come up with initiatives that make a positive difference to address crime and enhance safety outcomes" Mr Northe said.
Under the Building Safer Communities Program, Victorian Councils, community groups and organisations, along with other stakeholders will have the opportunity to apply for grant funding for the purposes to support innovative, evidence-based approaches to address crime and improve community safety, under two competitive grant streams.
"The first round of the Building Safer communities’ program opens on 18 January 2021, and will close on March 15 2021, and there are two streams of funding that are hopefully of great interest to many within the Morwell electorate" said Mr Northe.
"I do encourage local community groups, organisations and Council’s to consider applying for funding through this program, to which if successful this could well make a real difference on the ground" Mr Northe added.
Applications should aim to use evidence, engage and consult with community members to develop proposals for effective initiatives.
Stream 1 - Creating Safer Places – competitive grants of between $25,000-$300,000 for Councils to undertake urban design projects that apply an inclusive environmental design approach to deter crime, increase safety and activate public places.
Stream 2 - Crime Prevention Innovation Fund - competitive grants of between $25,000 to $300,000 for Councils and community organisations for place activation and crime prevention education and awareness initiatives. Research bodies and commercial entities (such as consultancies or social enterprises) can also apply but must partner with a council or community organisation on their application.
Applications can be submitted via the Crime Prevention website: https://www.crimeprevention.vic.gov.au/buildingsafercommunities
