Coaches DayYallourn Golf Club Was Host To Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Sports Academy Inaugural Coaches Seminar Held Recently... By Danny Anderson - 10th December 2002 - Back to News Yallourn Golf Club was host to Edison Mission Energy Gippsland Sports Academy inaugural coaches seminar held recently.
The successful seminar allowed coaches from a wide variety of sports to meet and discuss coaching techniques, desirable outcomes and an opportunity for the Academy to showcase its future direction and goals.
Coaches from Melbourne, the academy and other programs were able to gain insight into new developments in the world of coaching from guest speaker Dr Ralph Richards, regional Programs Manager from the Victorian Institute of Sport.
Academy Executive Officer, Andrew Pomeroy said the success of the seminar will path the way for more regular events. The day provided an excellent opportunity for coaches to identify outcomes, a more direct focus for individual coaches and more of an awareness of the range of opportunities that the Academy can provide.
To promote unity amongst coaching staff a BBQ lunch was enjoyed by all then individual coaches and guests had an opportunity to demonstrate their own talents by playing a social round of golf to cap off a very successful day.
Golf admissions are now being taken for the 2003 Members Australia Credit Union golf program. Young golfers who are keen, motivated and posses a good handicap are encouraged to apply on line by visiting, sport.gippsland.com and go to forms and follow the instructions.
The Academy's head golf coach Richard Cooney said Gippsland had produced some talented golfers such as Craig Hasthorpe who was placed in the junior team and is now part of the state squad and talented golfer Ryan Hammond was part of the Victorian Junior Team has now advanced to the Junior Colts.
Future participants of the golf program will look forward to the prospect of learning from some of the best in the industry. Assistant Coach, Darren Cole is no stranger to the golfing circuit having had much experience being part of the Australian PGA Tour and in addition playing professionally in Europe and USA.
Applications for the 2003 Golf Program are to be sent and received by deadline 5.00pm Monday 2 December 2002.
