By Portal Admin - 14th October 2016 - Back to News Rod Quantock has been a stand-up and, more recently, a sit-down comedian foralmost 50 years. And after all that time his live shows continue to be box office hits and elsewhere and he is a vital voice in many social and political debates. His one-man show Boredom Protection Policy will be performed at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 19 October from 7.30pm.
Latrobe City Council’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that Quantock’s shows were always relevant to the moment and change with the headlines of the day.
"But what Rod himself has noticed is that the headlines of today day are the same as the headlines of yesterday. To prove his point he is reprising one of his most successful shows, Boredom Protection Policy," Ms Roberts said.
Boredom Protection Policy debuted in 2002 at Trades Hall Melbourne to critical and popular acclaim. In the 2016 incarnation, Rod revisits the issues that flared on the front pages of the press in the post-9/11 world and concludes the more things change the more they stay the same. In 2002 he saw the raw issues as terrorism, refugees and the Prime Minister. In 2016 the raw issues will be terrorism, refugees and the Prime Minister and possibly still James Hird.
"Then, as now, Quantock's comedy is at once topical, intelligent, relaxed and, for those in his cross-hairs, positively brutal. He is a modern day jester who targets the antics of the ruling elites and the follies of humankind with playful delight," Ms Roberts concluded.
Boredom Protection Policy will be performed at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 19 October, 7.30pm. Book your tickets at the Box Office on 5176 3333 or online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/lpawhatson.
