‘The Stony Rises Project’ is currently on show at the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams said that the geography of a place has a major impact on the activities that occur and consequently the interactions between those who live and work in that place.

"It is easy to see how historically the land and environment has shaped us here in the Latrobe Valley, and ‘The Stony Rises Project’ focuses on the intricate relationships of people with place and looks at colonial and Indigenous narratives in a particular part of the Western District of Victoria.

"The artists and designers, including Vicki Couzens, Lesley Duxbury, Ruth Johnstone, Seth Keen, Gini Lee, Jenny Lowe, Marion Manifold, Laurene Vaughan, Kit Wise and Carmel Wallace, have produced a diverse range of works including, prints, photographs, a possum skin cloak and multimedia installations," Ms Adams explained.

"Seeing this exhibition prompts us to think more closely about the stories, histories and relationships that are particular to our place," Ms Adams concluded.

The exhibition was developed by RMIT Design Research Institute and curated by Lisa Byrne, Professor Harriet Edquist and Associate Professor Laurene Vaughan and is toured by NETS Victoria.

‘The Stony Rises Project’ exhibition will continue until 24 April.
