For dog and cat owners in East Gippsland, next Sunday (4 September) is "Microchipping Day."

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 30th August 2005 - Back to News

In conjunction with the Victorian Canine Association Dog Show to be held at Bairnsdale Racecourse, the East Gippsland shire will ‘microchip’ dogs and cats at the concession price of $20, a substantial reduction on the current vet price of between $50-80 dollars.

The Shire’s Manager of Local Laws and Emergency Management, Heather Jones said the offer was open for all dogs and cats that have been de-sexed.

"Owners will need to either provide proof of registration, or register the animal that day with a council officer who will be on duty," she said.

"Microchipping is an excellent security measure and a sure way of tracking down owners should animals stray or meet with misfortune."

Ms Jones said that dogs brought to the show would need to be on a lead while cats will need to be cats will need to be restrained in a cat box.
