Need to know about planning?

Wellington Shire residents seeking general advice about planning processes and procedures can now call Planning Aid on 136 186.

By Wellington Shire Council - 4th January 2005 - Back to News

Planning Aid is a service run by the Department of Sustainability and Environment in conjunction with the Planning Institute Australia and Victorian Planning & Environmental Law Association, and is supported by Wellington Shire Council.

Designed to complement advice provided by local councils, it is geared to answer general questions such as:

  • How do I know if I need a planning permit?
  • How do I make a planning application?
  • What do I do if I get a notice about a planning application in my street?
  • How do I make a submission about a planning proposal?
  • Where can I get information about planning processes?

When calling, simply select the Planning Aid option after the welcome message.

For those seeking more detailed information on specific planning cases, the local council should be the first point of contact.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "Planning processes and procedures can often appear complex and difficult to understand and we welcome initiatives like this, which are designed to improve the public’s grasp of the subject.

"Our planning staff are always keen to explain requirements and advise on how to proceed to obtain a planning permit as quickly as possible."
