Roundabout works on schedule, but traffic delays to be expectedLengthy delays are expected to the end of June as construction works continue on the Smith and Queen Streets roundabout in Warragul. By Baw Baw Shire Council - 8th June 2006 - Back to News Works begin this week on the Old Shire Hall and the La Porchetta corners, which will slow through traffic, said Baw Baw Shire chief executive officer Mr Glenn Patterson.
"Contractors will be working on these corners directly opposite to each other for the first time in the project. It is likely this will cause additional delays so we advise through traffic to avoid the area completely," said Mr Patterson.
"All areas worked on will be barricaded which reduces driver visibility and therefore slows traffic."
Additional works will be undertaken on the northeast corner of the roundabout between midnight and 6:00am.
"There will also be lengthy delays at night for cars travelling south on Smith Street.
"A traffic controller will be placed at Williams Street stopping traffic for upwards of ten minutes while the area is cleared and safe passage is determined. This area should be avoided where possible," he said.
Project works are on schedule with the majority of the capital works to be complete by the end of June and asphalting works completed in mid July.
The extra lanes will not be opened until all works on the roundabout are completed at the end of July.
