Monash Reserve Now Home To Paintball ClubThe Adrenalin Paintball Club will have access to Monash Reserve, Newborough for six month trial period, following Monday’s Council meeting. By Latrobe City - 10th December 2010 - Back to News Council agreed to the grant the club a six month Sporting Ovals and Pavilion Licence for use of the Monash Reserve oval and pavilion as a co-tenant, on the basis they receive a planning Permit and Victoria Police approval.
Latrobe City manager recreational liveability, Jamey Mullen, commented that upon completion of the initial six month period, a review will be undertaken to determine the appropriateness of the Adrenalin Paintball Club continuing to utilise Monash Reserve oval and pavilion.
"This type of paintball is in contrast to traditional bush paintball which is generally run by private enterprise for profit on privately owned property. The Adrenalin Paintball club is incorporated, with 29 members, has appropriate insurance arrangements in place and is a not-for-profit community based club.
"It is extremely safe as the club is required to provide a plan of the field and all barricades to Victoria Police for approval. There is also a ‘safety’ area to protect those outside of the designated area which is 60 metres from the edge of the playing field in all directions, except if there are physical barriers in place such as netting.
"Noise will not be a community concern either, as the sound emitted when a paintball is fired is equivalent to a can of soft drink being opened and the capsules (paintballs) are water soluble and fully biodegradable," Mr Mullen explained.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that providing facilities for a wider range of activities allows a greater number of people to get the most out of community life.
"Participation in sport and recreation results in better physical and mental health, encourages individual and family participation which improves character, self-esteem and good citizenship. It also promotes community solidarity, strengthens the bonds and personal relationships of individuals and serves as a focal point for group and community identification.
"Council has always ensured the provision of a sufficient area of public open space, courts and other recreational facilities to suitably meet the needs of the community which makes Latrobe City a great place to live, work and play," Cr White explained.
Latrobe City deputy mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, added that there will be a huge potential economic benefit for Latrobe City once the club establish themselves.
"Information from tournaments held in other parts of Victoria has shown that regional championships can attract over 600 people who directly inject over $70,000 to the local economy. State championships could draw over 800 people with a direct spend off over $800,000.
"Another positive impact is that Adrenalin Paintball Club is in the process of luring world-renowned paintballers, Todd Martinez, Ryan Greenspan and Devon Stutz, to Latrobe City in 2011. There is talk of them competing in the region and helping to establish the club’s new facility.
"This would help to put Moe / Newborough on the world map for all the right reasons and would be of great benefit to the whole of Latrobe City," Cr Gibson concluded.
