Construction starts on Migrant Wall of RecognitionThe pouring of footings for the Migrant Wall of Recognition as the first step in the project’s construction phase, was commemorated on-site by council, government and project committee members on Thursday. By Latrobe City Council - 28th September 2006 - Back to News The Migrant Wall of Recognition recognises the outstanding contribution the migrant population has made to the Latrobe Valley.
Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price said the honour wall will not only recognise the achievements of the large numbers of migrants who arrived in the 1940s and 1950s who helped develop the Latrobe Valley as the powerhouse of Victoria; but also those migrants who came before, and those who have arrived since.
"I particularly congratulate the Italian Australian coordinating committee in initiating this project, and the way the concept has broadened to attract support across the whole community," Cr Price said.
The Migrant Wall of Recognition is being constructed on council land at Kernot Hall between Princes Drive and the lake.
