CFA Fund-Raising Bans IllogicalCFA Brigades and volunteers that have been directed to not participate in fundraising events. By Portal Admin - 22nd November 2020 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe has raised in Parliament disappointment on behalf of CFA Brigades and volunteers that have been directed to not participate in fundraising events, even as COVID-19 restrictions are eased across the State.
"I understand that even despite the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, CFA volunteers have not been given the green light to resume their important fund-raising activities and that just seems illogical" Mr Northe said from Spring Street today.
"That’s why I’ve used question time today to put to the Minister that this directive needs urgent review and amending" Mr Northe said.
Mr Northe raised a Constituency Question today, calling upon the Minister for Emergency Services to provide updated information as to this restriction upon our volunteer firefighters.
"I know how important fundraising is for our dedicated CFA volunteers in order to update vital equipment, assets and skills to help protect our communities in times of need. Continuing to put a hold on fund-raising and subsequently delaying these important investments is unfair and unreasonable" Mr Northe continued.
"COVID-19 has put a stop to many fundraising opportunities this year, and as we approach the summer months, any monies raised and invested becomes more important to our firefighting services" Mr Northe stated.
"It makes absolutely no logical sense why Bunnings can resume sausage sizzles this week in Metropolitan Victoria; however in regional Victoria our CFA brigades cannot participate in a BBQ to raise vital funds".
"That’s why today I’ve raised this issue in Parliament and I will continue to call on the State Government to urgently address some of unfair COVID-19 restrictions in the Latrobe Valley including this one that prohibits CFA volunteers from fund-raising activities" Mr Northe concluded.
