The ‘Home Based Business Networking Workshop’ is an initiative of the Small Business Answers Program auspiced by the Australian government and is one of several workshops planned for Gippsland.

According to Latrobe City’s senior economic development officer, Leo Billington, this workshop will meet the needs of anyone operating a small business interested in learning new ideas, and alleviating the ever present worries and concerns that may otherwise take over.

"Latest statistics show that an estimated 67.5 per cent of all small businesses are home-based. This is a significant part of our economy and therefore any assistance with such businesses, such as this workshop, becomes quite valuable," Mr Billington said.

"The range of small businesses in Latrobe City reflects the passions, strengths and abilities of our community. As always, there is considerable time and effort, plus significant levels of investment involved in setting up and maintaining these businesses; so I encourage small business operators to attend and benefit from these types of workshops," he said.

Guest speaker at the free workshop will be well known Gippsland business identity, Tony Radford, who established the first McDonalds restaurants in central Gippsland. Tony will give an insight into developing sustainable businesses, drawing on his long association with McDonalds and their expectations of their franchisees.

"I established my first business 38 years ago. As a small business butcher, I thought that my future was established. However, it was my investment with McDonalds that gave me a complete change," Mr Radford said.

"Being in business has always been part of my upbringing. For a long time, all my family have had some association with small to medium sized businesses. You can say that being in business has provided me with many opportunities to observe other businesses and note how they are run," he added.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 15 February at the Civic Centre, Kay Street, Traralgon, commencing at 5.30 pm for a 5.45 pm start. For bookings or more information, please phone Terry Vincent on 1800 669 300 or Leo Billington on 0407 541 258.
